Do you perfer tradition or modern babynames?

Do you perfer names that are more on the trendy side or do you like more tradition old fashioned names. Because i like too find out what peoples choices are.

Do you perfer tradition or modern babynames?
I prefer traditional names. Names called "modern" are really just "trendy" names.

Traditional (or classic) names can't be tied down to a span of a few years, whereas trendy names clearly say, "I was born around 2008." McKenna and Madison (for a girl) are good examples of trendy names -- ones that, 10 years from now, people can tell when McKenna or Madison was born just by hearing her name. It's like the name Nicole, which can pretty much be pinned down to the 1980's or late 1970's.

I don't like being stereotyped, and I doubt that my children would either. That's why I go for more traditional names. Not popular ones (such as Ava, which is classic but popular), but rather less common traditional ones.
Reply:I don't like trendy names.

Most names, even the trendy ones, have been around for a long time. Even the intolerably trendy Jaden, comes from the Bible, and Aiden (which I also think is too trendy) is an old Irish name that means "fire."

So I think any name can become trendy, even if it is a traditional name. Even, Sophie/Sophia, Eva, Olivia, Annaliese, Grace/Gracie, Jada, and Isabelle, which I used to think of as really classic pretty names have become very common, too common for me to want to use them.

So I like any name that is not too common, and I prefer names that are meaningful to me. Like the name Sybil, which means "prophetess", or Gideon, which is from the Bible.

And even more modern, "made-up" names are ok with me, as long as they are good-sounding names, and everyone else isn't using them.

I think that sometimes, really nice, classic names, can be "rediscovered" by the masses, and a person might use a name, thinking that it is really classic or unique, and then a few years later, realize that they accidentally gave their child a super-trendy name.
Reply:Well, I love the names Emily and Kati but Emily is always on the top of the most popular names. There's a lot of trendy names I don't like though but I guess I would still pick Emily so I would prefer names on the trendy side. I have two sons named Kevin and Adam and their names are not in the top 10 but they are not too uncommon either.
Reply:I think the first name should be modern and origional and the middle name should be named after someone, or a tradition, something that runs in the family. for instance

My family

June Rose [ my grandma ]

Holly Rose [ me ]

Gabriella Rose [ my future daughter ]

And hopefully she chooses to name her daughters middle name rose but if not its cool.
Reply:I agree with you on Nevaeh!!! I love your daughters names, they are so cute!!

I like names that are trendy yet commom. My daughters are Paige Danielle and Mackenzie Alexis. Paige and Mackenzie are both common names, yet have recently became more popular. The year Paige was born, her name was #50. The year Mackenzie was born, her name was #53.

I am pregnant with our third and last child. He is due next month. We are planning to name him Nicholas Sean. Last year Nicholas was #20.
Reply:I prefer traditional names. Made-up names and "creative" spellings might work for some people, but I prefer names that have stood the test of time, are dignified, and won't embarrass a child if he or she goes on to get a Ph.D. degree (take a lot of these contemporary, weirdly-spelled names and put "Doctor" in front of them, and they'll look ridiculous).
Reply:Definetly old fashioned...i'd never name my baby a name that i knew someone (personally knew!) had used..so Aiden, Noah, Caiden, Jayden all those popular names, are out for me..(even if i think they're cute)...! But i know lots of ppl who love trendy names....or popular i guess!!
Reply:I like a mix I guess. My daughters name is River Michelle, and if our second is a girl her name will be Eve Madeline. I love the name James for a boy, and also like Ian or Evan. But there were a few non traditional names on our boy list too, when we were looking at names for our first.
Reply:Trendy names are horrible. Many of those kids will need psychological help and boxing lessons. Stick with traditional. There is nothing wrong with Mary, Alice, Jennifer, William, Matt, George, etc...
Reply:I definitely like traditional with a bit of modern in the middle name. I don't care for trendy names that will most likely date a child or names that can be used for either gender.
Reply:Traditional. Those names are timeless and good for both little boys and grown men. The modern names are cute for little boys, but not good names for grown men, generally speaking.
Reply:Both. I really like the older more uncommon names like Sally, Isabella, Teresa %26amp; Sonya. However, i also love the names Sara (pronounced Sah-rah), Melina (or Melinda) and Kailey.
Reply:I like Traditional names though my daughter has a combination of traditional and modern due to having to compromise with my husbnad. Her name is Katherine Alexis.
Reply:Isabelle Katherine is very cute name. Very Classy! I have always like more traditional names, but do love a lot of the more trendy names. As long as they are not too weird like Apple or Coco. Good luck!
Reply:I like to go with somewhat unique, and go with names that actuallly mean something. If you find a name you like, try checking out this website:

Reply:Traditional. I don't care for a lot of modern names, and tend to lean toward names that are classic (some people would say old-fashioned).
Reply:i dont know what category these names are in but i like Nicole Jessica Niki and Tori oh and Lexie or Lexy how ever you spell it
Reply:I'm somewhere in the middle actually! I love the name Ember and the name Alexandra. I'm odd.
Reply:A little of both. I really love classic names with modern names.
Reply:deff modern .. traditional is too boring
Reply:when my boyfriend and i were trying to think of names for our son we wanted something different but not unheard of!!! something that not many people were named!!!!
Reply:both ........ it fun mixing and matching
Reply:I love the old fashioned names, and am really not crazy about the popular unisex names coming out:
